Plan your Garden

Gardening provides a way to sustainable living in your own back yard. Gardening can range from planting a vegetable garden to a fragrant flower garden, or creating your own peaceful getaway with a fish pond. You are in charge of creating your own beautifully personal garden. Make it what YOU want.

I hope this gardening website helps you start your own garden successfully, with all the basics, while having a little fun through the garden planning and planting process.

Most of the information comes from my own gardening hands-on experience. I do not claim to be a master gardener, but I do enjoy passing on any information that can be helpful to someone else.

Happy Gardening!!

3 Lessons to avoid common mistakes

lesson 1 for all gardeners: patience

Depending on your zone, you may not be able to start your seeds indoors yet and it is driving you crazy to hurry up and wait.  Gardeners - patience is a virtue!  If you start your seeds too early for your growing season, you will end up working backwards and possibly having to start your seeds a 2nd time.  Have patience and work within your zone.  Don't let other gardeners in different zone push you into starting too early.

lesson 2: sterilize your containers

At the end of last year, you stored all your containers that were used in transplanting baby plants to the garden.  Well, now it is time to reuse them for the new year.  STERILIZE your containers first.  Wash all the old dirt, fungus, mold, spider eggs, etc. off your containers and start fresh with nice, clean containers for your new plants.  You do not want to bring any diseases or contaminants to your need seedlings.

lesson 3: seed starting mix and lighting

Do your research and purchase, or make, the proper seed starting mix to give your seeds a great start on the growing season.  If you are starting your seeds indoors, you will need proper grow lights once they emerge from the soil, if it is still too soon to move your plants to an outdoor greenhouse or the garden.  Most seeds need the dark in order to germinate, and then sufficient lighting once they emerge for the photosynthesis process of the leaves.
